What is HUMS?

Firefighting operators working on US Forest Service’s helicopter contracts need to be aware of the substantial updates coming soon! As the Government moved to a ‘Lowest Priced, Technically Acceptable’ footing, they dramatically raised the technical standards on aircraft. In the nearly 300-page solicitation, Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS) were specified as required on “Modern” Type 1, 2, and 3 aircraft!
